Sehwan Sharif a city located near Jamshoro, Sindh. It is only 130 km away from the Hyderabad city. In the era of Raja Dahar the name Sehwan was originated. It was also present in the 8th century when it was conquered by Muhammad Bin Qasim and then after by Mahmud Gazni. From Mughal Empire Humayun also wanted to capture it but his son Akbar captured it through Umerkot. Other than that the largest fresh water lake is also at a short distance from Sehwan Sharif. The city Sehwan Sharif is also known as the city of saints and Sufism because of Hazarat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. He lived here in 13th century.
The real name of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is Syed Usman Marwandi also known as Jhulay Lal. He was from Suhrawardiyya Sufi, he was a dervish, and his irrational thoughts inspired people from different religions. He had a Nobel sprit for which he is called Shahbaz. He travelled around the world and settled in Sehwan, where he was buried. He established a (Khanqah) a place where all Sufi gather, he also wrote what he formally expose to Mizan-us-surf, Kism-e-Doym, and Aqd and Zubdah. His anime is being taken in different poetries and songs a very famous Qawwali sung by many big singers like Abida Parveen, Ustad NUsrat Fateh Ali khan “ O Lal Meri Pat Rakhiyo Bhala jhulay laalan…..…Sehwan da Sindhri da Sakhi Shahbaz Qalander…. Dama Dam Mast Qalandar”
The Shrine tomb was built in 1356 is decorated with Sindh cultural blue color tile which was also used in the Makli and Seven sister’s graveyard in Sukkur city, and it has a gold plated door donated by A Shah of Iran and installed by the Pakistani Prime minister Late Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. The grave is covered with the silver and the inner size of the tomb is 100 yards. At the one side there are some wooden shelves for Quran Sharif and on the other side the people burn fire lamp called (Diyo). The Urs (Death anniversary celebration) is very much famous it held on 18th of Shaban. Every year on 18th Shaban became the center of million pilgrims from all over the Pakistan. It held for 3 days millions of dervish, visitors rush towards the shrine pray there and make a wish. People cover his shrine with green clothes decorated with the Quranic versus in golden color it is their faith that whatever they wish here it all comes true. Sufi, dervish, and visitors sing there and dance there on the eve of urs till late night, and that dance is known as the “Dhamal”. In normal days People who reside near Shrine visit daily.
Once when Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Sharif was travelling from Baluchistan to Sindh he stayed at Mangho pir a place recognized as the place for meditation. A natural warm fountain started to flow from the hill where actually Lal Shahbaz Qalandar sat. It is said that that water is very powerful and very useful for different diseases special healing of asthma disease.
